Kenny Brack has tried out a super realistic IndyCar simulator in Italy. The winner or the 1999 Indianapolis 500 admits he was impressed by what he saw and experienced.

“Wow! Who would have thought when they first drove the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race that a 100 years later it would be possible to drive and experience the sensations of the track in Italy?” Brack said.

“Although the IndyCar simulator development is in it's beginnings, Dallara and their devoted engineers have a clear vision to develop another useful tool to help further the understanding of an IndyCar by being able to simulate various car and technical set-ups,” he added.

The aluminium and carbon fiber simulator was introduced in December and improvements have been ongoing since then. The goal is to supply teams with a Safety Cell to be augmented with an engine and aero kit, in 2012.

The simulator will allow drivers to test various situations like driving in traffic or with car failures.

“Basically, you’re trying to mathematically model something that has an almost infinite number of variables and so the number of things we can model and the way we can input into the machine are improving all the time,” said Sam Garrett, U.S. technical liaison for Dallara.

“Drivers have come and run it early on and in its gestation and later on and they tell us it’s more and more realistic every time they get in it.

“We’re really happy with the way it’s progressing and we believe it will be a truly useful tool in the future for both drivers and ourselves in that we can do a lot of the development that we would have had to do on the track we can do a lot of that even before we build the parts. It’s really exciting.”

Dallara will add a simulator division in its factory under construction next to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
