As a perk Jaguar's Adaptive Restraint Technology System (A.R.T.S.) is a standard feature. This system uses a sophisticated technology that allows the computer sensory program to feel where the passenger is before activating the front passenger-side airbag.
The XJ8 uses a 4.2-liter AJ-V8 engine supplying 294 horsepower (SAE) in conjunction with a 6-speed ZF automatic transmission. The XJR comes with a supercharged 390-hp (SAE) AJ-V8 engine making it possible for this powerhouse sedan to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h is a mere 5.1 seconds. Standard R equipment includes a performance-tuned suspension, Brembo brakes with four-piston calipers, and 19-inch cast alloy wheels. The interior of the XJR is performance-themed with body-hugging front sports seats that incorporate perforated leather inserts, while darkened walnut burl veneer exudes sporting ambience. In addition, a standard radar-based Adaptive Cruise Control system is added to the package, a feature that would cost an extra $3,660 in the Mercedes-Benz S55.
