The Mercedes-Benz W196 that helped Argentinean F1 driver Juan Manuel Fangio win the German and Swiss Grand Prix in 1954 was auctioned off last weekend during the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England.

The winning bid amounted to $29.6 million USD, or approximately $30.8 million CAD.

With chassis number 00006/54, the W196 features a 2.5L inline 8-cylinder engine that produces 300 horsepower.

Juan Manuel Fangio, who died in 1995 at the age of 84, remains the only driver in F1 history to become world champion with 4 different teams.
