While our translator spoke on the phone with Kia engineers to find out if the remaining 90 kilometres of range would be enough to safely get back to our hotel, a little monk came to greet us. We sat together at a café and later took part in a Buddhist prayer session. Then the monk and I (and our translator, fortunately) entered his Tiger temple where he took me under his wing.
Thank God, er, Buddha, we managed to complete the two-way trip despite the range indicator reading zero upon our arrival. I’m a believer now!
Wrap-up
Refueling difficulties aside, the Kia Borrego FCEV lived up to the expectations for a large SUV. Driving dynamics are basically identical to the regular model’s. And in case you’re wondering, our tester averaged less than 5 litres per 100 kilometres.
Patience is key, here. The zero-emission Borrego won’t make it to our streets before a couple of years and many more development stages. As far as I’m concerned, though, it will forever shape my memories of Korea.
If it were not for all these decals, you wouldn’t be able to differentiate this model from regular Borregos. (Photo: Marc Bouchard/Auto123.com) |
