Head of Audi Motorsport, Dr Wolfgang Ulrich believes that the lap times that were set in the first qualifying session will be beaten in the second qualifying effort Thursday night.

The Audi team dominated the first qualifying session at Le Mans by setting the three best times, with the R18 e-tron hybrid LMP1 cars leading the first R18 ultra diesel.

With a best lap time of 3m25.453, German driver Andre Lotterer was quicker than last year's pole position (3m25.738). But Dr Wolfgang Ulrich thinks that it will go even faster on Thursday night.

"On the whole, we had a very productive day," he said.

"Finding a good set-up for the unusually cool temperatures in the night session wasn’t easy because the grip level on the track was pretty low. In the end, we managed that quite well on new tires. I do think, though, that even faster times will be driven tomorrow. But we’re fully concentrating on the race anyway because the pole position is not of decisive importance for the outcome of the race at Le Mans."
