Le Mans: A new date for 2012

The Automobile club de l'ouest (ACO), organiser of the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans has changed the date of the 80th edition of the endurance classic for 2012.

Next year's race will be held one week later than usual, on June 16 and 17, with the start of the race scheduled for 3pm. The Grand Prix of Canada in Montreal will be staged one week before, June 8-10.

The ACO revealed that the decision was taken to avoid a clash with Formula 1 in 2012, and to adapt to the French Presidential elections which will take place during that period.

The ACO also announced that the Test Day will be held later than usual, on June 3.

In the press release, the organisers state that "this will enable the teams to set up home inside the circuit, and they will not have to dismantle their hospitality units, etc to save some costs”.
