The most exhilarating LS ever produced

It was just a natural progression of things that Lexus would, after launching the next generation of its Lexus LS sedan, produce a racier, more excitement-inducing F SPORT version. And that’s exactly what the luxury automaker delivered this week at the 2017 New York International Auto Show.

Upgrades in the 2018 Lexus LS 500 F SPORT include elements touching on road handling and a performance-oriented design conception, both inside and out.

For starters there’s the F SPORT grille (the fruit of 5 months of hard design labor), which delivers an immediate extra visual punch while aiding in cooling the vehicle. It also features special F SPORT moldings, as do the bottom of the chassis and the trunk. Exclusive F SPORT badging decorates the fenders, and also-exclusive 20-inch alloy wheels complete the transformation of this LS into a sleek speed-monger.

Once inside, exclusive F SPORT front seats provide improved support, and overall the unique look of this version is cemented by the presence perforated-grill pattern on the seating as well as aluminum trim elements, all of which send the same message of sleek sportiness. The driver’s main tool is a special F SPORT steering wheel, and within easy line of sight are a speedometer and tachometer in a movable meter, fitted with a meter ring that slides to display information – a concept borrowed from the Lexus LFA supercar. Lexus has also included an optional Flare Red interior scheme, available only for the F SPORT.

The 2018 Lexus LS 500 F SPORT benefits from the latest technology touching on chassis control, larger brakes (with 6-piston calipers in front and 4-piston calipers in back), an active stabiliser system and sport-tuned air suspension with rapid height function.

The basic mechanics of the F SPORT actually remain unchanged: 415 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque, wedded to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

When the F SPORT arrives on the Canadian market and how much it will cost have not yet been announced by Lexus. Stay tuned for more info as we get it.
