With China and the U.S. being its two key markets, the all-new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class was unveiled almost simultaneously in Guangzhou and at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Described as the world's quietest production sedan by the German automaker, the Mercedes-Maybach will launch in the U.S. with the S600 in April 2015. This model houses a twin-turbo V12 engine that produces 523 hp and 612 lb-ft of torque (available from 1,900 rpm) through a 7-speed automatic transmission.

Later, in June 2015, an S500 featuring a twin-turbo V8 engine (449 hp), 9-speed autobox and 4MATIC all-wheel drive will join the lineup.

As you would expect from a Mercedes-Maybach sedan, passengers are treated like kings. Those sitting in the rear can recline their seatbacks at a maximum 43.5-degree angle, enjoy 325 mm of knee room, and rest their feet on ottomans. With the Chauffeur package, you get even more legroom and the front passenger seat can be folded forward and the rear seat placed in an extended recline position ideal for naps. Of course, there's no shortage of top-grade materials including genuine wood, aluminum, chrome, and leather.

The Mercedes-Maybach S600 also features a 1,540W, 24-speaker Burmester audio system, handcrafted champagne flutes, and a panoramic sliding sunroof that can be specified with MAGIC SKY CONTROL so the glass can be switched to light or dark at the touch of a button.

Since the Mercedes-Maybach will go head-to-head with Bentley and Rolls-Royce cars, prices will be similarly out of this world. Look for an announcement in the coming months.
