The Maybach brand isn't dead. Visitors at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show will see the debut of the all-new Mercedes-Maybach sedan.
This extra-long-wheelbase model, featuring a heavily revised rear passenger compartment and C-pillar section, will be one of four variants of the current W222 S-Class, alongside long- and short-wheelbase versions of the base sedan and the Pullman limousine.
It will rival the likes of the Bentley Mulsanne and Rolls-Royce Ghost.
Automotive News reports that the Mercedes-Maybach could use the same V12 engine that powers the current Mercedes-Benz S 600 and produces 523 horsepower along with 612 lb-ft of torque. The S 65 AMG's twin-turbo V12 (621 horsepower, 738 lb-ft of torque) is another possibility.
As for Mercedes' 4MATIC all-wheel drive system, its availability remains a mystery.
The interior will be derived from the late Maybach 62 and feature reclining seats and infotainment functions in the rear in addition to a wide selection of materials and options.
Pricing for the Mercedes-Maybach will be announced after the Los Angeles Auto Show, but expect it to start at around $200,000. The company will take pre-orders beginning next spring.
