The all-new 2016 Acura NSX finally made its anticipated debut last week in Detroit and many people were surprised to learn that a woman, Michelle Christensen, served as exterior design project leader.

The 34-year-old designer, who joined Acura in 2012, is the first woman to lead a design team working on a supercar. She also contributed to the now-discontinued ZDX crossover and a refresh of the RLX.

Michelle Christensen told Automotive News that her interest in fashion shaped the NSX's looks and that fashionable shoes, like cars, are structures that are designed to appear to be moving even when standing still.

"Shoes and cars are both these really complex shapes that need to wrap around a human element," she said.

Christensen wanted the new 2016 Acura NSX to stand out and, judging by the car's spectacular styling, she most certainly succeeded.
