Here's a short rundown of what to expect from Mazda's 2008 vehicles.
The 7-passenger CX-9 gets a new engine after only a year on the market. Mazda will replace the Ford-sourced Duratec 3.5-liter V6 by an all-new 3.7-liter V6 that produces 273 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque.
Criticized for its poor outward visibility, the CX-9 will also get an available Blind Sport Monitoring System.
The sporty CX-7 returns with very little changes. The most notable is catalyst and engine reprogramming, which means that super unleaded fuel will be recommended rather than required. The 2008 CX-7 should be hitting dealerships as you read this.
The MX-5 roadster gets a driver's seat manual height adjustment, as well as a standard-equipment tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The PRHT model, with its 12-second opening and closing power hard top, gets the same additions as the soft-top MX-5.
The Mazda5 mini-minivan receives a host of cosmetic and mechanical updates for 2008. The front and rear portions of the 5 are slightly redesigned, and new colors will be available. GT models will get LED taillights. Armrests will now be included, as well as rear-seat air vents and an auxiliary input jack for the sound system.
A five-speed automatic will replace the current four-speed unit, which will improve fuel consumption.
The Mazda6 mid-size wagon will be dropped, leaving only the 4- and 5-door models available for 2008. A tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) will be standard on all models, and a couple of new colors will be available. 17-inch wheels should also be standard on GS models.
