They're a bit late to the party, but Mercedes Benz has been building hype around their upcoming small SUV, the GLK, which goes on sale in the near future. The model is not a 'crossover'- and it's designed to battle the Acura RDX Turbo and BMW X3.

2010 Mercedes GLK350 4MATIC

The GLK350 4MATIC name indicates the models use of both a 3.5 liter V6 engine and automatic four wheel drive system. The powerplant generates 268 horsepower, handled by a 7-speed automatic transmission. The 4MATIC system handles power distribution between the wheels intelligently, and a standard Agility Control suspension ensures impressive driving dynamics and off-road abilities.

Pricing starts at $41,800 and includes 19-inch wheels, dual-zone climate control, 10-way power adjustable heated front seats, Bluetooth interface, CD-Changer and more. That's a lot of equipment for not a whole lot of cash- relatively speaking of course.

An available premium package adds a panoramic sunroof, power steering column, memory seating, parking assist, a power tailgate and universal garage door opener. 20-inch wheels and aluminum roof-rails are also available.

"The bold exterior design, sporty handling characteristics and generous list of standard safety and convenience features combine to offer customers an unmatched level of value within the mid-size premium SUV segment," said Marcus Breitschwerdt, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Canada. "The GLK-Class strengthens our already strong roster of premium sport utility
vehicles, and with standard equipment and features not typically found in this vehicle class the GLK350 4MATIC will offer another compelling option for customers to join the Mercedes-Benz family."

GLK will be available for purchase from January 5th.
