The last variation is the BlueZERO F-CELL (in ALU-BEAM green), which uses fuel cell technology. Thanks to the complex chemical process resulting from the contact between hydrogen and oxygen, the fuel cell captures the electricity produced by the reaction and delivers the necessary power to the car. Output is the same as the E-CELL version with about 135 hp. The only emissions produced by the F-CELL model is water vapour. This drive system allows for a 400-km operating range.
All three versions accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 11 seconds. Their top speed is limited to 150 km/h in order to ensure optimal battery capacity.

In order to validate the technology, Mercedes-Benz is introducing a number of very limited production cars on the road. "For 2009, we will be producing the first Mercedes-Benz fuel-cell cars on a small scale. Small-scale production of Mercedes-Benz cars with battery-electric drive alone will then begin in 2010. This means we are extremely well equipped for the future," said Dr. Thomas Weber.
