All indications around the Mercedes GLK at this year's Auto Show circuit point in the direction of a hit.

The German premium manufacturer is using the GLK to make their late but highly anticipated foray into the mid-sized SUV segment- stressing that it is in fact an SUV and not some mushy crossover. It's quite the looker, too.

"With the G-Class we created a style icon that has been a benchmark in SUV design for the past 30 years," said Mercedes-Benz Design Chief Prof. Peter Pfeiffer. "Combining this bold concept with the latest Mercedes-Benz design idiom makes the GLK a vehicle of genuine character."

Big on safety, performance and capability, the 2010 GLK 350 4Matic comes with a full selection of occupant protection hardware, a punchy V6 engine with intelligent all wheel drive. The flexible and accommodating cabin offers plenty of configurations for hauling any combination of passengers and gear, and those on board are protected by a full suite of safety features.

Standard are adaptive front air bags alongside side and curtain airbags, active head restraints, stability control, and crash optimized pedals.

Power from the automaker's 3.5 liter V6 is rated at 268, and drivers can expect 0-60 in a respectable 6.7 seconds.

The entire package rolls on standard 19-inch wheels and employs a sophisticated, adjustable 'Agility Control' suspension system to do away with the typical compromise between on-road and off-road performance.

The German built GLK is on sale now.
