Mitsubishi has long been a part of the international rally racing scene, and now they're supporting Canadians who choose to get involved with it.

Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada (MMSCAN) has just announced a three-year commitment to a rally support program which is intended to encourage participation of amateurs in organized rallysport activities. The program will directly benefit competitors, volunteers, promoters and organizers, Mitsubishi says.

Canadian rally enthusiasts have been anxiously awaiting the company's formal involvement in the scene for the past five years or so, and are expected to be ecstatic at this announcement. It's launched under the banner "Mitsubishi. We've come to race."

Koji Soga, President and CEO of MMSCAN, says "The benefits of Mitsubishi's on-going success in world rally championship wins can be seen directly in the automotive engineering and design success of the all new 2008 Lancer Evolution. The innovation and benefits brought to our street vehicles can be linked directly to our motorsports heritage."

Mitsubishi will support all six Canadian Rally Champion events, including the Targa Newfoundland. They're kicking in travel subsidies, cash awards and recognition for achievements, alongside local support to lend a hand to up and coming Rally champs.

Mitsubishi's rally support program will launch this weekend in Bancroft, Ontario at the Rally of Tall Pines.
