Retractable Hardtop to Replace Current Softtop-Equipped CZ2 Cabriolet

Mitsubishi's Colt is the brand's bread and butter car everywhere but North America, where the automaker has chosen not to follow current downsizing trends by offering the economical yet sporty model.

Nevertheless, the Japanese manufacturer will spice up the Colt line, at least in concept form, by releasing a new coupe-cabriolet concept co-developed with the company's Mitsubishi Design Europe (MDE) and Pininfarina S.p.A of Italy, at the 75th Geneva International Motor Show on March 1st.

Using the European Colt hatchback as its base, as well as the CZ2 Cabriolet concept that was shown in Geneva two years ago, the new prototype features an all-weather capable retractable hardtop designed and crafted by Mitsubishi together with Pininfarina S.p.A.

Compact at 3.89 meters (153.1 inches) in length, and featuring a fairly long wheelbase plus a wide track accentuated by the prototype's 18-inch alloy wheels, the car looks aggressively athletic.

Expected powerplants are to include Mitsubishi's 148 to 150 horsepower 1.5-litre MIVEC turbocharged 4-cylinder engine.

The sporty 2+2 convertible prototype takes advantage of the new Colt's overall architecture, especially its large and steeply raked windshield which is ideal for protecting occupants from wind turbulence.
