… and the brand’s SUVs are on the way

The marching orders for Genesis when in the process of revising its flagship sedan was to produce a car that embodied the concept of Athletic Elegance. Hyundai luxury brand today unveiled the results: the redesigned 2020 Genesis G90 made its North American debut today at the 2019 Montreal Auto Show.

The new quad headlights have been integrated in a horizontal architecture, and according to Genesis the new look serves as a foretaste of the design signature future Genesis models will adopt.

“G90 is the ultimate expression of the Genesis brand. Before the first sketch was even drawn, my team of designers thought carefully about how to evolve its styling and create something even more elegant and harmonic.”

The G90 also gets improvements aimed at enhancing the driving experience. This means that the interior surfaces have been upgraded and new comfort and safety features have been added, to do justice to the G90’s position as the brand’s standard-bearer identity.

The number of commands inside has been whittled down in order to deliver a simpler and more intuitive experience for occupants. Also noteworthy are quilted Nappa leather seating, new contrast piping on the leather-wrapped dashboard, additional leather wrapping on the centre console, higher-quality switchgear, and natural wood trim with an exposed grain texture.

Technologies
The technologies have been revised and updated as well, with some of the new elements being new to the Genesis brand. The 12.3-in central display screen benefits from a new graphic interface that sports the brand’s distinctive black and copper colours. This screen can display several functions simultaneously thanks to the screen-sharing function – on such a big screen you can afford to do that, no question. Now benefiting from full touchscreen functionality and with quicker responses, the system also offered access to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Safety
Safety has not been neglected in the revision either. Notably, Genesis offers all of its safety and drive assists technologies as standard equipment. Among the new systems are lane follow assist, highway driving assist, blind-spot view monitor, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance assist and safe exit assist, as well as 10 airbags.

Performance
Genesis offers its 2020 G90 sedan with a choice of two gasoline engines: a 3.3L twin-turbo V6 (365 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque) and a 5.0L V8 with direct injection  (420 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque).

All of the G90 models come with an 8-speed automatic transmission and active all-wheel drive with an electronic transfer case that distributes torque to the front and back wheels on demand or according to the driving conditions.

In Canada, the G90 will be offered at dealers only in a fully equipped version with the V8 engine and all-wheel drive. However, it will be possible to special order the car with the V6 engine. Prices have not been announced but they should be known as the summer 2019 launch approaches.
