The first edition of the NAPA Rally 5000 is taking place August 13th to the 26th. It is a cross-Canada rally that will involve five teams of car enthusiasts, picked for their aptitude with car maintenance and their love of driving.

It is not a traditional speed rally as we know it, but instead an exhausting ride across Canada where five teams will drive used car provided by the organisers, and where there will be mechanical, technical, aesthetic challenges to overcome.

The event will cover the total distance of 5,000km between Calgary, Alberta and Montreal, Quebec. Each team consists of one driver, and one co-driver/amateur mechanic.

The NAPA Rally 5000 organizing committee has released the identity of the five teams. Smoking Turbots (Maritimes), 401 Patrol (Ontario), Prairie Dogs (Prairies), Pacific Rims (British Columbia) and Sainte-Gravelle (Québec) will battle during the two weeks of the event.

By visiting the official web site of the event at www.naparally5000.ca, fans can take part in the many contests offered to support crews, including the NAPA Rally 5000 teams Pool.

As a support crewmember, you could win $20,000 in prizes, including $10,000 in NAPA parts and products to retool your garage, a NASCAR VIP Weekend for four in Montreal and various other second prizes.

The event will end just in time for the running of the NAPA Auto Parts 200, the NASCAR Nationwide Series' race to be held on the Gilles Villeneuve circuit in Montreal.

Canadian race car driver Patrick Carpentier will drive the No. 55 Toyota Camry of Michael Waltrip Racing that weekend.
