After Friday’s dramatic Nationwide race, the pre-race ceremonies at Bristol offered up a tantalizing prediction of bent sheet metal and payback.

Instead all fans got was a bout of name calling.

On Friday night race winner, Kyle Busch, admitted to “dumping” (spinning out) Brad Keselowski as payback for an earlier fender-rubbing incident.

So, in Saturday night’s opening ceremonies at the half-mile Bristol – dubbed the concrete Coliseum of stock cars by publicists – Keselowski threw down a verbal insult when he said “"Kyle Busch is an ass!" It was kind of a joke and crowd, estimated in the range of 150,000, roared with laughter.

Keselowski wasn’t the threat on Saturday evening as he was on Friday. When Busch came up to lap Keselowski’s No. 12 Dodge the crowd waited for payback. And waited.

The duo went side-by-side for a little while around the half-mile oval but Busch in a superior car polished off his erstwhile rival with little care.

Keselowski had a chance for immediate payback but chose to not to do something he’d regret because he’s on probation, and it’s likely that car owner Roger Penske wouldn’t condone it.
In the winner’s interview Busch was asked how he felt about Keselowski’s supposed insult:

Reporter: What was your thought about Keselowski's little pre-race declaration?
Kyle Busch: "Who?''
Reporter: Brad Keselowski.
Busch: "I don't know who you are talking about.''
Reporter: OK, he drives the No. 12 car.
Busch: "I saw it, but I passed it.''
