It was probably one of the most bizarre NASCAR Sprint Cup race ever. The Allstate 400 was run with a lot of caution Sunday afternoon at the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Indeed, tire manufacturer Goodyear had brought a new tire to the event and it was to coincide with the first ever race of the new Sprint Cup cars. It turned out that both right tires would wear out within 10 laps, mostly the right rear tire.
NASCAR had to throw a precautionary yellow fag every 12 laps to keep the drivers safe.
Pole sitter Jimmie Johnson (Chevy No 48) took only two tires on his last pit stop with some eight laps to go and won the race.
Carl Edwards (Ford No 99) did the same but could not do better than second. Denny Hamlin (Camry No 11) came in third.
As for point leader, Kyle Busch (Camry No 18), he ended up 15th.
Canadian Patrick Carpentier (Dodge No 10) did a great race and finished 18th.
