According to reports, Canadian Patrick Carpentier could be back with Michael Waltrip Racing for the Toyota/Save Mart 350 Sprint Cup race at Infineon Raceway later this month.
Carpentier could be called upon also to substitute for Michael Waltrip at the other road course race at Watkins Glen in August.
Waltrip's decision to stand down is not surprising after he made it clear before the season that his goal was a winning team, even if that meant he would not be in the driver's seat.
