Rain cancelled qualifying Thursday evening for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Bank of America 500 to be run Saturday evening at the Lowe's Motor Speedway in North Carolina.

Consequently, the starting line up will be done according to championship points. Jimmie Johnson (Chevy No 48) will start first with Carl Edwards (Ford No 99) at his side. Greg Biffle (Ford No 16) and Jeff Burton (Chevy No 31) will be on the second row.

Unfortunately, Canadian Patrick Carpentier will not be part of that race as Mike Wallace, who will start will drive his Dodge No 10 from the 40th spot.

Four drivers could thus not qualify for the race, three of them Sprint Cup first-timers, Bryan Clauson (Dodge No 40), Brad Keselowski (Chevy No 25) and Scott Speed (Camry No 82). Veteran Derrike Cope (Dodge No 75) could not do it either.

The Sprint race will be shown live on ABC and TSN on Saturday evening while the Nationwide race held at the same track will be on ESPN2 and TSN2 on Friday evening. Among the 53 drivers trying to qualify for the 43 starting spots are Canadians D.J. Kennington (Dodge No 81) and Andrew Ranger (Dodge No 22).
