Eight spots, in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Chase, are up for grabs, here's the 11 contenders and what they'll need to do.
Okay NASCAR fans, time to get out your PDAs, calculators, pens and paper. Thanks to the folks at NASCAR Public Relations, here's how your favourites can wrap up a top-12th spot in the lucrative Sprint Cup Chase.
Just remember, NASCAR awards five bonus points for leading a lap, and additional five points for leading the most laps, so be sure to subtract one or two positions for those bonuses.
Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson and Denny Hamlin are locked in.
Carl Edwards, nursing that broken foot, needs only a 24th or better in Richmond.
Kasey Kahne, winner Sunday night, has to finish at least 21st.
Did you catch Kurt Busch slamming his car after the crash? He needs a 20th.
Juan Pablo Montoya, points racing this year, he's aiming for 18th.
Points' leader, Stewart's teammate Ryan Newman, can clinch with a 16th. Ageless Mark Martin, "who me retire?" gets his shot with a 12th.
Greg Biffle, one point (at 69) behind Martin needs an 11th.
Now it gets interesting, 12th place Matt Kenseth is only 20 points ahead of Brian Vickers, and 37 points ahead of Kyle Busch. He can clinch with a second place, or merely finish ahead of Vickers and Kyle.
David Reutimann is mathematically in the hunt, but at 132 points by Kenseth is a long shot.
Not so easy for Kenseth who has an average finish of 16.7 at the ¾ mile oval. Vickers has averaged 27.8. Kyle Busch? He's got the best record of all active drivers with an average finish of 6.1.
Class dismissed.
