The Touch Shift transmission allows the driver to select all five gears by pushing the gear lever slightly left to downshift or right to upshift (with the current gear plainly visible in a gauge below the tach), all while in the Drive selector position. It isn't necessary to move the lever to another gate or selector position and it isn't possible to put the car into a gear it can't handle, which means a computer won't let a mistake turn into a blown engine.
