As well as being very economical, the new four-cylinder power plants offer superior performance, a high level of torque and a dynamic, sporty character. The 105 kW/143 hp C 180 KOMPRESSOR model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 9.7 seconds, giving it an advantage of 1.3 seconds over its predecessor, while the top speed of 223 km/h is up by 13 km/h. Although it delivers 15 percent more torque, the new model undercuts the fuel consumption of its predecessor by one litre per 100 kilometres. The C 180 KOMPRESSOR makes do with 8.4 litres of premium unleaded petrol per 100 kilometres in the NEDC combined driving cycle.
Compared with the respective previous four-cylinder engines, the respective fuel consumption figures of the new C 200 KOMPRESSOR (120 kW/163 hp) and the C 230 KOMPRESSOR (141 kW/192 hp) are 0.6 and 0.7 litres lower per 100 kilometres. Furthermore, the new Mercedes four-cylinder units already meet the stringent EU-4 exhaust emission limits which come into force in 2005.
