Rumours about an upcoming Jaguar crossover still won't go away, although most fans of the classic sports and touring
car brand hope that nothing too truck-like will ever malign the image of the leaping cat. It's entirely possible however, that a crossover based on the future Volvo XC90 platform could find its way into Jaguar showrooms, and no doubt the brand needs to improve profitability.
Last year Mazda updated its popular Ford Escape-based Tribute, but it won't be until next year that the all-new CX-7 crossover, looking every bit like the ultra-hip Crossport concept, will debut.
Nissan almost updated its entire lineup of
trucks, SUVs and crossovers over the past two years, so nothing new is planned for the 2006 model year. A restyled Murano is probably next, but Nissan will want to be careful with how it modifies this popular model.
Porsche enhanced its Cayenne last year and will introduce a much revised 2007 version next year, but until then just look for performance upgrades and special editions.
I've already mentioned Volkswagen's soon-to-arrive Beduin, a compact SUV based on Golf/Jetta architecture. The iconic German brand plans to have a bevy of engine alternatives, like usual, one of which will be its updated TDI turbo diesel.
