The countdown to the world premiere of the significantly updated Volkswagen Golf continues today with a focus on the bigger, safer, and higher-quality Golf MkV (fifth generation), introduced in 2003.
The design of this Golf was marked by the characteristic C-pillars, the powerful rear, the sporty front end (for the first time, the hood followed the contour of the headlights, like a sports car), and the muscular silhouette rising toward the rear.
Just one year later, a 200-horsepower Golf with a black radiator grille and sports seats in the legendary tartan "Interlagos" fabric signaled the comeback of the GTI.
In case you missed our look back at the second-generation Golf (MkII), third-generation Golf (MkIII), and fourth-generation Golf (MkIV), as well as the overview of the Golf’s safety evolution and its many variants over the years, you should definitely check them out now.
