Nissan this week released the first installment of a new online film series following the development of its DeltaWing LeMans 24 Hours entry. The first installment covers wind tunnel testing.

Nissan says it will release a new installment roughly every two weeks, culminating in a TV documentary to air after the 24 Hours of LeMan event in June.

A film crew has been following the DeltaWing's designer, Ben Bowlby, and his engineering team as they build the car, as well as how the vehicle's 1.6L DIG-T engine was developed.

In addition to designer Bowlby, Nissan credits project managing partner Don Panoz as key in its development. The prototype was built by Dan Gurney and All-American Racers, with heavy involvement from Highcroft Racing and Michelin.
The wind tunnel work in the first video took place at Windshear in Charlotte, N.C.

"The wind tunnel work in particular was a key component of the project," said designer Bowlby. "The data we had from the scale model development and what our computer simulations told us showed we were moving in the right direction.
"Getting the full-sized car in the wind tunnel really cemented that. In fact, the final results actually exceeded our expectations."
