It's an important day for Nissan's Sunderland plant, as workers ramp up production of the new Qashqai. Not only the start of a new model, the
Qashqai's production also represents the first new vehicle to be produced within the Nissan Integrated Manufacturing System. The system's benefits include better ergonomics and random, multi-model production capabilities.
The Japanese automakers new compact crossover SUV offers consumers the benefits of a traditional family hatchback but with the added capability afforded by its advanced 4x4 system. It's Nissan's latest take on a vehicle that offers something for everyone.
Vice President of UK Manufacturing, Trevor Mann, says: "This is a very important day for our plant as Qashqai will spearhead Nissan's drive for sustained, profitable growth in Europe."
Of course, the Qashqai benefits more than just the end consumer. After an investment of over 320 million Euros, the new model will create some 3000 total jobs between the plant and supply chain, as well as several hundred trainee posts.
Most of the production is intended for export to the Middle East, Australia, Japan and South Africa.
Qashqai joins other Sunderland produced models like the Micra, Note and Primera.
