Faulty hood latches are causing some serious concern at Nissan as they expand their recall list to include 2013-2015 Altimas. The company recently recalled 640,000 Altimas in the US and Canada which will bring the total up to approximately 1.1 million.

The issue was first brought to light when reports of hoods opening and damaging cars surfaced. While no reports of death or injury have resulted from the faulty hood latch, there is the possibility that the hood could fly open while the vehicle is in motion if the main latch fails, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Nissan already recalled 238,000 Altimas from the 2013MY for the same issue, however those are from a different batch than the current recall. Earlier this year, Nissan recalled 216,000 Pathfinders (’13-’14), Infiniti JX35s (2013), and QX60s (2014), all for the same faulty hood latch issue.

If you think your vehicle is part of the recall, contact your local Nissan dealer and bring your car in immediately.
