Some styling changes are a consequence of consumer tastes (as determined by focus groups), and some came from having to re-engineer the front end to meet our crash regulations. In both models, a black panel within the grille opening hides the bumper beam.
As in other parts of the world, a big part of the visual statement is vibrant colours, such as bright magenta, lime squeeze and blue flame. Ford says Fiesta will have the wildest and largest colour palette in the class.
Other notable exterior features include 4-headlamp cluster and turn indicators incorporated into the mirror (optional).
Interior
The interior retains Fiesta’s famous cell-phoned inspired centre stack and soft-touch IP (though the materials are a bit different). To address our crash standards, the dash was pushed a bit further away from the front-seat passenger.
There are lots of North American specific interior bits. For example, we have cup holders, lever seat adjusters (versus rotary units), and an optional moon roof.
On the whole the interior appointments are an attempt to move B-class up a class, with lots of contrasting colour elements, and two-tiers of leather seating options (the top-shelf one featuring piping and stitching).
Other notable interior features include Intelligent Access key fobs, push button start, hands-free audio with USB port, ambient lighting, SYNC, and lots of iPod connectivity.
My 5-ft 8-in frame was comfortable enough in the rear seats of the sedan. But while I was able to tuck my feet under front seats, my thighs weren’t quite resting on the seat cushion. The trunk offers up 12.8 cu-ft of cargo space.
