After much anticipation, GM finally released the official specs of the all-new 2010 Chevrolet Camaro. As a direct threat to the highly-popular Ford Mustang and the newly-introduced Dodge Challenger, this muscle car will be available in three different models.

The entry-level LS and mid-range LT will both be powered by the same 3.6L V6 as the Cadillac CTS and STS. Featuring direct injection, this mill produces 296 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque through a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. Highway fuel economy is estimated at 9.0 L/100 km.

If you want more excitement, the V8-powered SS model will thrill you. The Corvette-sourced engine, displacing 6.2 liters, generates 422 horsepower and 408 lb-ft of torque (manual transmission). These numbers are oddly similar to the 425 horsepower of the HEMI-equipped Challenger SRT8. With the autobox, output will be slightly lower at 400 horsepower and 395 lb-ft of torque. Four-piston Brembo callipers will ensure strong braking performance.

As for safety, the list of features will include 6 standard airbags, StabiliTrak stability control as well as traction control.

Assembly will take place at GM's Oshawa plant in Ontario, with the first units scheduled to be delivered in the first quarter of 2009. Pricing has yet to be announced.
