Our sedan was a little different from a stock 330i, in that we had a switch to turn the ABS (anti-lock brake system) off, as well as BMW's Dynamic Stability Control (DSC). All I will offer is that when both functions are disengaged it makes a world off a difference. We practiced avoiding objects known as "Little Johnny" and "Bambi." There was even a skid pad strategically set up that was drenched in water by a water truck. On this pad we put ourselves into compromising situations and then were taught how to get out of them. What can I say? It was enlightening.

The training was enlightening, and afterwards I felt more confident in my driving abilities. (Photo: Alexandra Straub, Canadian Auto Press)

After the day was done I felt more confident, maybe because I can honestly say I've become a better driver. Yes, there is a lot of information handed out, but it was all useful. While many of the situations that we put ourselves into and got ourselves out of are unlikely to happen, hopefully by learning them before a crisis occurs our conscious, and maybe even our subconscious minds will react properly when called upon.
