Yves Legris of Laval sticks Flagworld's logo on his number 23 Citroën. Legris acquired this little bomb at the end of the 2005 edition of the Sherbrooke Challenge. This year, Legris was the best Quebecker in the standings.
The Challenge's organisers really did a good job of offering weekend ticket holders a show featuring Martin Deschamps and his musicians. Of course, the rocker performed in front of a full house and his show was appreciated by all.
In the Rally class, it's the veteran Jean-Paul Pérusse in his Mitsubishi that won the stopwatch event. The management chose to add up the times of each trial on Saturday and Sunday, and Pérusse easily edged Randy Zimmer in his Subaru Impreza by over 1 accumulated minute.
During the pilots' gala on Thursday night, the two French drivers of the Fiat team, champions of the 2005 edition, showed their teeth for the 2006 edition. Philippe de Korsak and Franck Lagorce came through and easily won this year's edition.
Who talked about motorcycle competition on two wheels? Most pilots like to express themselves and show off the power of the bikes by popping wheelies, much to the satisfaction of the spectators and motorcycles fans.
It's in this FIAT that Korsak and Lagorce blew by the 2006 Challenge, not losing any of the classifying races, and finally winning the Andros trophy. It's almost like they were in a class by themselves...
For the spectators, it's always impressive to see the cars drift even before entering a curve. On this picture, we can see a group of cars in different stages of the tightest hairpin on the track. With all that rubber on all four corners, these drift aces put on quite a show for the spectators. We often ask ourselves how can mid-pack drivers see the track, since the studded tires rip up the ice as they pass.
In the motorcycle class, Dominic Beaulac on his Yamaha climbed on the highest step of the podium during the Sunday finals, in front of the young Kevin Benoît on this Kawasaki as well as Kevin Lacombe also on Yamaha. The quickest pilot for the KTM brand was Karl Daigle on 4th place.
Champions of the 8th edition of the Sherbrooke Continental Challenge on Ice, French drivers Philippe de Korsak and Franck Lagorce were proud to hold up the immense trophy saluting their great victory. They both promised to come back and defend their title during the 9th edition in 2007. These two champions are happy with their performances and... really pleasant. These two guys are drifting champions on ice and off.
The Quebec duo composed of Bertrand Godin and Marc-Antoine Carmirand in a high-rent Renault Clio started the weekend well, before an unfortunate accident worth over 6 000 $ of damage. That's a sum the owners required before starting the repairs. The Quebec duo chose not to pay that amount, and they are unfortunately eliminated from the competition. They weren't on the track on Sunday for the finals.
Quebecker Bertrand Lambert was present in the rally class in his old 90s Mazda 323. He barely missed the podium by finishing fourth, being 1 minute and 59 seconds slower than the winner of group of sessions. Congratulations to Bertrand and his small team for this great performance in a car that was much less powerful than the Subaru Imprezas.
