A wind of panic is blowing across the Great White North: the Council of the Wise has stipulated that all reindeers must wear winter hooves during the cold season.

Santa Claus can't believe the news. "Who in Rudolph's name got this crazy idea? Do they really think I don't know how to drive a sleigh? It's just a bit of snow, after all!"

Indeed, Santa's reindeers have criss-crossed the sky for centuries with their regular, all-season hooves!

"That's true, but it would make for a safer ride, Santa," insists one of his little elves, Studdedtire. "I know you're an excellent driver, but we wouldn't want bad things to happen to you... Let's go out for a slide and you'll see what I'm talking about."

The old man, accompanied by Studdedtire and his eternal sidekick, Handbrake, jumps on his beautiful red sleigh. And off they go into midnight sky.

Snow is slowly falling and everything seems normal high up there... much to the satisfaction of Santa Claus, who can't help but smile under his fluffy white beard.

But suddenly, a plane comes out of nowhere and its powerful turbos send a violent blast right in the nose of the terrified reindeers! A surprised Santa immediately pulls the reins and is left to face the inevitable.

The big sleigh starts skidding sideways while the V-aligned reindeers can't manage to get their legs straight. However, after a long series of skids and desperate maneuvers by Santa, the gang magically gets back on track.

"Boy, we almost lost it completely!" says Handbrake. "You see how it's impossible to maintain control if the reindeers don't have a proper set of hooves. Look at how they're worn out! "

Santa Claus learned his lesson. The trio stops by Canadian Hooves to buy a complete set of winter hooves for the reindeers. Once back home, Studdedtire installs them with the help of a hydraulic reindeer lift.

The reindeers couldn't be happier. They keep admiring their brand-new shoes and the solid prints they make in the snow.

"Now we'll work with a greater peace of mind during Christmas night. We'll know you're totally safe... provided that you don't drink and drive!" says Swaybar, the elf in charge of gift manufacturing.
