Kerry Knoll fully understands what’s at stake, especially with the fast-rising consumer interest in hybrids and electric vehicles. "A Chevy Volt will go 6.5 kilometres on a kilowatt-hour. On a dollar-equivalent basis, that’s about 2.6 litres per 100 kilometres, using $2.75 gas and 12 cents electricity rates in the United States, which seem to be the averages. At that rate, I believe that the up-take of electric cars will happen (provided they operate well) as fast as they can be manufactured. It’s going to go very, very quickly. People will buy these things. The question is: how fast can the (mining) industry respond?"
