4 and Targa 4S models offered exclusively with all wheel drive and a wide rear body profile which is nearly 2 inches wider than the standard Carrera. The Targa model, first conceptualized some 40 years ago, was the first car of its kind to offer an open-air driving experience akin to that of a convertible while maintaining the benefits of a solid roof. The resulting machine was one capable of serious performance, year round use, and the magical open-air driving experience that only a convertible can offer.

The genius roof mechanism blends seamlessly into the lines of the car, while a polished strip of trim runs the length of the roof to accentuate the

vehicles classic shape. The glass top can be retracted at any speed in a few seconds, and reveals an opening overhead of nearly 5 square feet. It is lighter than its predecessor and features a wind deflector to help eliminate turbulence and keep occupants warm even on relatively cool days. A new sealing system works to reduce wind noise at higher speeds, and there is also a semi-transparent screen made of fabric to block out excessive sunlight. Both the glass lid and sun shade are electrically operated.

The glass rear hatch rides on gas charged struts for easy opening, and allows access to over 230 liters of storage space so long as the rear seats are unused and folded down.

The all wheel drive Targa 4 is motivated by Porsche's 3.6 liter flat-six engine which makes available 325 horsepower to propel it from 0-60 in 5.1

seconds. Adding the "S" designation boosts engine size to 3.8 liters and appropriately steps output up to 355 horsepower. The increase in performance is marked- a Targa 4S will dash from 0-60 in just 4.7 seconds, and has a slightly higher top speed as well. Porsche's Vario-cam system maximizes torque output across the RPM range, allowing the 3.8 liter Targa 4S to muster nearly 400 lb.-ft of torque.

Power is delivered to all four wheels via a six-speed manual transmission or 5-speed tiptronic automatic transmission with steering wheel mounted gear shifters. The all wheel drive system serves to increase bad-weather traction and improve year-round performance, by delivering up to 40 percent of available power to the front wheels through a viscous clutch.

The glass-roofed, all-season, all wheel drive Targa 4 starts at $119,100 and goes on sale this November.
