After weeks of speculation and teasers, Porsche finally put the media and fans out of their misery by officially unveiling the 2011 911 GT3 RS 4.0 Limited Edition.
With just 600 units to be produced worldwide, the track-derived sports car uses a 4.0-litre, flat-six engine to achieve maximum power of 500 hp at 8,250 rpm and 339 lb-ft of torque at 5,750 rpm. The powertrain is completed by a 6-speed manual gearbox instead of the German automaker's dual-clutch PDK transmission.
As previously reported, accelerations from 0 to 100 km/h are performed in 3.9 seconds, while sprinting from 0 to 200 km/h takes 11.9 seconds. Porsche says the 911 GT3 RS 4.0 can lap the famed Nürburgring-Nordschleife in 7 minutes and 27 seconds. In comparison, a 911 GT2 RS posted a time of 7:18 and the Nissan GT-R, 7:24.
Such extraordinary performance is partly attributable to a low weight of 1,360 kilos (2,998 lbs) with a full tank, courtesy of carbon fibre sport seats, front fenders and luggage compartment lid, not to mention plastic rear windows.
The 2011 Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 Limited Edition will come exclusively in Carrara White with a manufacturer's suggested retail price of CDN$211,100. It will go on sale in Germany this July and in the United States in late 2011. No word yet on Canada.
