heritage, this hasn't ruled out the possibility for an eco-friendly (and wallet friendly) variant. According to a variety of sources, the German automaker has negotiated a deal with Toyota for its hybrid drivetrain components as used in the Lexus RX400h SUV. This powertrain option would most likely consist of the new 3.6-liter V6, or the naturally aspirated V8, plus the front and rear-mounted electric motors along with a battery pack mounted in the floor of the trunk.

Work on the updated Cayenne is far from complete, but it is welcomed news for consumers wanting a little more style with their super-SUV. These updates should stave off the encroaching competition, namely the upcoming Audi Q7 Quattro and next-generation BMW X5, the recently redesigned Mercedes-Benz M-Class and Land Rover's supercharged duo, the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport.

Expect the face-lifted Cayenne to make its debut early next year at the North American International Auto Show, or later on in the year at the Paris motor show, where the car would celebrate its fourth anniversary.
