The Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) has proposed regulatory amendments regarding insurance contributions for 2016-2018. Thanks to an excellent highway safety record and an insurance program that's no longer in the red, the vast majority of drivers in the province will have to pay significantly less to register and insure their vehicles in the future.

For more than four million holders of a Class 5 driver's licence, the insurance contribution will drop from $64 to $55... provided they have a spotless driving record (no demerit points). Meanwhile, the insurance contribution for a registered vehicle will melt from $120 to $64.

All the information including details for other classes of drivers are available on the SAAQ website.
