After Day 3 of competition at the Rally Monte Carlo, Frenchman Sebastien Loeb (Citroen DS3 WRC) is still the comfortable leader of the event despite running on some slippery roads.
For the first special stage of the day – SS11 – the two Citroens of Loeb and Hirvonen were equipped with two soft tires and two studded tires despite the fact that no snowy sections were announced.
Petter Solberg has his Ford Fiesta fitted with two super softs and two winter tires. He easily claimed the best time, beating Dani Sordo (MINI) by 13.2s and Loeb de 16.7s.
However, Citroen's tire choice was better suited for the next special stage as the last sector was quite slippery.
Mikko Hirvonen, Loeb's teammate at Citroen, set the best time of the event in front of Loeb. He even reduced Sordo's advantage by 39 seconds and Solberg's by 1m46s!
Loeb managed to increase his overall lead over Sordo and Solberg. The tires of the Fiesta of the Norwegean were not suited to the conditions. “It was very bad,” said Solberg.
