A field of forty competitors will hit the road on Friday, October 3, with only one thing in mind: save as much fuel as possible. The drivers will take part in the second edition of the Rallye Énergie Alternative des Laurentides, travelling across the Quebec countryside in a 600-km event spanning two days.
The goal is to complete the rally step by step within the allotted time frame while consuming the least amount of fuel possible. Last year's winners and Auto123.com representatives, Bertrand Godin and Marc Bouchard, are once again on the starting grid, but have traded in last year's Honda Civic Hybrid in favour of a more frugal ride, a Honda Insight supplied by Alma Honda.
"We're reliving the experience again this year because we believe in the cause and want to prove that cars can be both environmentally friendly and fuel efficient. But mostly, we want to meet true green car aficionados and, hopefully, win the title a second time!" commented the teammates with a laugh.
Drivers and co-pilots will have to put in some nimble and ingenious driving in order to get the best out of their car. They will have to ensure minimal fuel consumption throughout the 600-km event, a part of which traverses mountainous terrain. The winner of this edition will get a ticket for the next Monte Carlo Rally.
This is the second edition of the event, presented by Hydro-Québec, the Créneau d'excellence en transport terrestre avancé (TTA) of the Laurentians and the Centre d'expérimentation des véhicules électriques du Québec (CEVEQ). The rally kicks off in Alma, in the Lac Saint-Jean region; the teams will then head towards Quebec City and finally Saint-Jérôme, where the checkered flag will be dropped.
The Rallye Énergie Alternative des Laurentides is the only one of its kind in North America.
