Remember the wireframe sculptures of the new Range Rover Evoque Convertible that popped up in the streets of London earlier this fall? Well, Land Rover today unveiled the real thing, marking the launch of the world’s first topless luxury SUV. It will go on sale next spring in more than 170 countries around the globe including Canada.

“The Range Rover Evoque Convertible is a vehicle for all seasons. Its uniquely distinctive design and world-class engineering adds another dimension to the Range Rover family, further enhancing its desirability and appeal,” said Gerry McGovern, Land Rover Design Director and Chief Creative Officer.

The fully automatic, retractable fabric top stows in 18 seconds (its Z-fold mechanism lays flush with the rear bodywork for a sleek, uncluttered appearance) and can be raised in 21 seconds at speeds up to 50 km/h. A 251-litre trunk offers added practicality.

Four people can comfortably sit inside the Range Rover Evoque Convertible, where they’ll enjoy premium Oxford leather upholstery. Those up front can access the brand new InControl Touch infotainment system through a customizable 10.2” touch screen.

The exterior stands out with an eye-catching silhouette, LED headlights, fog lights, and large 20” wheels, while safety is enhanced by rollover bars and numerous driver-assist technologies. Motivation comes from a 240-horsepower, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. If you so desire, you can cross rivers up to 50cm (20”) deep.
The new Range Rover Evoque Convertible starts at $64,990.
