In fact, this is the kind of place that makes a visit that should only last 15 minutes turn all too easily into a whole afternoon. You can find any number of anecdotes online attesting to hours lost by visitors to the place. Few complain.
And that's exactly why it takes time to drive Route 66. In our case, our time was limited and it was necessary for us to leave some places more quickly than we would have liked. For me, that means a third (!) trip the length of the route is absolutely in the cards… one day!
This is one of the vehicles Gary Turner purchased when redeveloping the station. It’s incredible to think that this truck is identical to the ones that supplied the station with its gasoline when it opened in 1934. A moment spent next to such a monument (we're going beyond the world of automobiles here) is a humbling experience.
