While the news has yet to be made official, all signs point to Saab being purchased from General Motors yet remaining in Swedish hands. Domestic manufacturer Koenigsegg, specialized in ultra-premium sports cars, just signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with the support of the Swedish government, as reported.

Koenigsegg CCX Edition

Koenigsegg is a tiny auto company that produces about two dozen vehicles annually, each one selling for $1.5 million or so. Established 15 years ago in Engelholm, in Southern Sweden, Christian von Koenigsegg’s eponymous brand particularly makes headlines with its electrifying, high-performance exotics.

A few weeks ago, the company showed interest in taking over Saab; however, this time, all the pieces of the transaction look set. Sweden’s Ministry of Commerce made the LoI public and confirmed that it will back up Koenigsegg in applying for bank loans.

No financial terms or purchase dates have been officially announced yet.
