Sauber Signs Jacques Villeneuve for 2005 and 2006 Formula 1 Seasons

again join the paddock on a full-time basis, having been signed to Sauber Petronas for the 2005 season onwards.

According to Team Principal Peter Sauber, JV's championship title isn't what gave him the lead over rival drivers, but rather his determination to rejoin Formula 1 made the difference.

"I have to admit that signing a former World Champion is something truly special for me," said Sauber. "However, I want to make it clear that this was not the decisive factor. When I was talking to Jacques, I could feel that he is absolutely keen and committed to return to Formula One."

reserved JV during the 2005 season, however, most likely less willing to be so candid with the press as in previous years and no doubt less critical of his teammate.

While Sauber chose JV on his enthusiasm and, of course, proven talent, the team leader doesn't take signing a world champion lightly.

"I fully realize that signing a former World Champion is also an obligation for the team to provide him with a car that meets his expectations," said Sauber. "Sauber Petronas has made considerable progress this year, and I am confident that we are ready to tackle this challenge."
