Top Tuner
The icing on the cake was definitely the unveiling of the all-new Super Sky, an ambitious concept from the Castrol Top Tuner Team. GM, BF Goodrich and Pioneer also took part in this venture.
The Top Tuner project took off last year with the goal of teamming five of Canada's best tuning specialists. The crew first created a hardtop Solstice, a car that won numerous international awards -- none bigger than at the 2006 SEMA Show, in Las Vegas.
So the bar was set extremely high for this year. But the team brainstormed intensively and managed to come up with an even bolder model. Although based on the Saturn SKY's platform, the Super Sky has only one other similarity: the name.
The chassis gained 75 centimeters and the roofline, 45. Meanwhile, the bodywork has been entirely remodelled by hand. The engine, sourced from the Corvette, now relies on a mid-mounted configuration while the steering sits dead center. What's more, a 3-section glass sunroof has been added, not to mention a host of electronic gizmos, such as a biometric scanner to start the car. Obviously, a premium sound system completes the package.
Aiming for the top
For Tajai Das, Project Manager and Cofounder of Top Tuner, the Super Sky is a real enthusiast magnet. "We want to take it to every contest so that it becomes even more popular than its predecessor. Last year, our main focus was styling; this year, we want to show the whole world that tuning is serious business out here," he explained.
Aside from Mr. Das, who coordinated the project, Chris and Lee Nankoo, Serge Léger and Simon Rowe supervised the design and construction of the Super Sky. In case you're wondering, this fabulous machine is the result of a million-dollar investment.
