Company Introduces "Sports Tourer"

Toronto- Nearly 20 years ago, Chrysler introduced a new segment of automotive transportation called minivan at its assembly plant in Windsor, Ontario. Nearly 10 million minivan sales later, Chrysler will launch yet another vehicle sure to define a new segment that the corporation calls a "sports tourer." The 2004 Chrysler Pacifica will be built at the same assembly plant in Windsor, Ontario, where the company currently builds its best-selling Chrysler and Dodge minivans.

"Similar to our original minivan and Chrysler PT Cruiser, our all-new 2004 Chrysler Pacifica is yet another segment buster," said Chrysler Group President and CEO Dieter Zetsche. "With innovative packaging and proportions, three rows of seats, car-like handling and all-wheel drive, there's simply no other vehicle like it in the marketplace."

While the 2004 Chrysler Pacifica will be built in the same plant as Chrysler and Dodge minivans, the vehicle will not be built on any of the company's short or long wheelbase minivan platforms. While the 2004 Chrysler Pacifica will be built on its own new, unique platform, it will utilize existing corporate resources including the company's proven 3.5-liter V-6 engine in the Chrysler 300M.
