On Day 1 of the SEMA show, Mazda blew the crowd away with the MX-5 Spyder, a modified version of its popular two-seat roadster that definitely had us thinking ''Porsche'' on looks alone.
Indeed, the red retractable roof created by the Haartz Corporation is strangely reminiscent of the Porsche Boxster Spyder's own soft top. With its elongated profile, the MX-5 Spyder seems even more low-slung than ever – but headroom hasn’t been amputated to make up for it.
The 2.0L, 4-cylinder engine can now run on isobutyl alcohol, turning the Mazda MX-5 Spyder into a tree-hugging ride that’s still all about performance. Mazda calls it – what else? – ''Sustainable Zoom-Zoom.''
Finally, the customized car features a white paint job, new 17'' wheels, black leather seats, and a short-throw shifter.
