Star Mazda: Alex Ardoin claims victory

Alex Ardoin claimed victory today in the Star Mazda race held at the Grand Prix of Trois-Rivieres. Conor Daly made a rare mistake and finished third.

Conor Daly, son the the former Formula 1 driver Derek Daly, clinched pole position for the race, beating Anders Krohn, Caio Lara and Alex Adroin in qualifying. Local boy Mikael Grenier, racing in front of his fans, qualified 7th.

Grenier experienced problems during the formation lap and was forced to pit for a new front wing. He rejoined the fray in last place.

Moments after the green, pole position holder Daly entered Corner 1 too fast and ran wide in the marbles, making him lost a few places.

Meanwhile, Anders Krohn let the early part of the race until lap 10 when he made a small driving mistake and lost three spots in just two corners.

Alex Ardoin took over the lead and managed to keep the hard charging Conor Daly at bay. Jorge Goncalvez ran in third place ahead of Krohn.

Mikael Grenier passed a few rivals and ran in 11th place.

On the last lap of the race, Conor made another mistake while running alone in second place. He braked too late and too hard at the end of the long Du Carmel straight and missed the corner. He turned his car around but lost one position.

Ardoin won the race in front of Goncalvez, Daly, Krohn and David Ostella. Grenier was classified 10th overall.
